Having debuted to Australian racing in exceptional form this year, Godolphin runner Hartnell ($2.20) has opened as and maintained status as clear favourite in 2015 Sydney Cup betting markets ahead of Who Shot Thebarman ($4.60) and Protectionist ($4.80) with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.

Will Hartnell continue his winning run through the 2015 Sydney Cup or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?

Hartnell ($2.20)

Hartnell began his racing career under the guidance of British trainer Mark Johnstone but has arguably found career-best form to date since transferring to the care of John O’Shea at the conclusion of his 2014 campaign. Displaying an exceptional turn of foot to place a close second to Contributer in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) on February 28th, the Authorized gelding jogged home to win the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (2000m) on March 14th before breaking through for a maiden victory at the highest level in the Group 1 The BMW (2400m) last time out on March 28th. Confirmed to be partnered by 2014 Sydney Cup-winning jockey Tommy Berry, all signs seem to point towards another impressive win for Hartnell on Saturday.

Who Shot Thebarman ($4.60)

Posting eight wins and a further three minor place finishes through his 19 career starts so far, Who Shot Thebarman returns to his pet distance of two miles for the first time since running third in the Melbourne Cup last year and is more than worth consideration for a Sydney Cup bet at current odds as a result. The winner of the 2014 edition of the Group 1 Auckland Cup (3200m), Who Shot Thebarman has quickly built to the task over three starts this time in and appears to be in peak condition for Sydney Cup success after placing fourth in The BMW a fortnight ago. Sure to be boosted by the addition of jockey Blake Shinn, the Yamanin Vital gelding will have no issue carrying just 54.5kgs on Saturday.

Au Revoir ($26)

A proven performer over the distance and on the Randwick track, Au Revoir offers exceptional value for money in 2015 Sydney Cup betting markets and is more than capable of a top three finish. Ending his maiden Australian season with success in the Group 2 Zipping Classic (2400m), Au Revoir has also found the right form leading into the Sydney Cup and will be partnered by leading jockey Kerrin McEvoy.
