Trainer John Sargent has been thrilled with the form and class displayed by Kirramosa in the lead-up to her racing return in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m), and has revealed the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) is likely to figure as her major target this season despite also being included in nominations for the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on Day 2 of The Championships.
A Group 1 winner, Kirramosa has not been seen at the races since fading to beat just one runner home in a disappointing performance in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on Caulfield Guineas Day last year.
Having charged home late to secure a strong victory in a Randwick barrier trial last week, Sargent told AAP he is confident of a strong first-up showing from the Alamosa mare on Saturday, and is confident she is more than capable of successful progression to major Group 1 feature races this season.
“She is fit and she trialled very well and I’m looking forward to her getting to the big races,” Sargent said.
“She is entered for the Queen Elizabeth but it’s more likely she will go to the longer races like the BMW and the Sydney Cup.”
Taking out a maiden event over 1200m on debut in early 2013, Kirramosa placed a credible fourth in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) before returning to the paddock.
Undoubtedly finishing career-best form so far through the 2013 Spring Carnival, Kirramosa ran fourth in a minor over 1200m first-up before returning to the winner’s circle in the Macka’s Soil/Sand CL1 (1200m) on September 18th.
Continuing to build in form and class when fourth in the Reginald Allen Quality (1400m) and second in the Inglis Bonus (1600m), the mare out of Freyja charged home to win the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) before repeating the dose in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) on November 7th.
Placing sixth in each of the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1400m) upon resuming in the 2014 spring, Kirramosa appeared to be building further when fifth in the Group 2 Shannon Stakes (1500m) on September 7th, but failed to fire in her most recent start.
