The Group 1 Sydney Cup will run at Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday April 27, 2013.
Run under open handicap conditions, the race is worth $500,000 in prize money.
The 2013 Sydney Cup is run over a distance of 3,200 metres and is open to horses of all ages.
Run as part of Sydney Cup Day, the 2013 Sydney Cup shares it’s day with the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Group 1 All Aged Stakes, Group 1 Champagne Stakes, Group 2 Emancipation Stakes and Group 3 Frank Packer Plate.
Tremec will line up for the 2013 Sydney Cup and represent faltering Patinack Farm in the race.
Patinack Farm is currently in dire straits, with the entire operation placed on the market and legal action possible after they withdrew all 24 of their yearlings from the Inglis Easter Sales last week.
Trainer John Thompson will look to claim a win for boss Nathan Tinkler when Tremec takes his place in the 2013 Sydney Cup.
”It’s been a tough past 12 months but he’s a great supporter of mine and he’s got some great horses there and this one is one of them,” Thompson said.
”It’s still 100 per cent business as usual. My guys just do our job until Nathan tells us otherwise, and that’s about it really.”
Thompson is confident that Tremec has what it takes to win the 2013 Sydney Cup after winning the Group 2 Chairman’s Handicap at Randwick last weekend.
“He’s a stayer of the future and he’s an exciting horse, he just needs to curb his barrier ways,” Thompson said.
